Commission a pet portrait
Pet portraits are perfect for giving as a special gift or for your own personal happy memories of a cherished pet that you have, or have sadly lost.
I love to create pet portraits in coloured pencil on a variety of papers. My favourite is Clairfontaine Pastelmat paper, with its superfine sandpaper finish, which is great for building many layers of colour when creating fur, texture and form and to capture your pets personality and character.
I work from high quality photographs supplied and work with you to choose the most suitable for the composition.
How much does it cost?
There are a few things to consider when thinking about a commission. This helps me to provide you with an accurate cost from the outset.
You should consider:
The finished size of the portrait:
- A4 (210 x 297mm) – which will fit into an A3 (297 x 420mm) sized frame.
A3 (297 x 420mm) – which will fit into an A2 (420 x 594mm) sized frame. - Pet head and shoulders or full body drawing.
- Whether no background or detailed background to pet is required.
- How many pets you wish to have in the portrait.
As an indication:
- An A4 sized portrait starts at £225 for one pet. For an additional pet + 40%. (No more than 2 pets at this size.)
- An A3 sized portrait starts at £350 for one pet. For an additional pet + 40%. For more than 2 pets please call me.

Photos are best taken outdoors or indoors with good light. This helps to achieve the best colour and detail of fur, coat etc.
Where more than one pet is in the portrait I will show you an initial simple sketch of the portrait so that you can ensure that you are completely happy with the composition before any colour work begins.
A 40% deposit is required on booking, with the remainder being due on completion of the portrait, once you are completely happy.
The finished portrait will be presented with an acid-free mount and back board so it is ready, when you receive it, to put into a frame. All mounts are cut to standard frame sizes so you can purchase a frame of your choice to suit your decor.
Delivery will be via Royal Mail tracked service and delivery cost will be set out in the initial cost.
